BUILDING FIRES IN THE RAIN
Hypothermic conditions, including rain, make starting fires an even harder task! Learn to build, start, and maintain fires in wet conditions. 2 hours. Ages 14+
HAND DRILL BASICS
This class will introduce you to a simple friction fire method called hand drill. A hand drill includes only a thin hearth board, and a long spindle from an herbaceous plant which is spun by rubbing your hands back and forth. 1 ½ hours. Ages 10+
BOW DRILL BASICS
The bow drill is made up of a spindle, hearth board, hand hold, and a fire bow. You will be shown the technique of starting a bow drill fire and have hands on practice with this tool. This ancient survival skill is a must-know for any outdoors enthusiast. 2 hours. Ages 14+
FIRE FROM FLINT AND STEEL
This class will teach you the methods of starting a flint and steel fire, making your own char cloth tinder, and building a successful fire! 1 ½ hours. Ages 6+
FIRE BUILDING
Come learn to safely build various types of wilderness fire structures and start them with modern survival tools! 3 hours. Ages 8+
FORAGE & FIRE
Combining a wild plant walk and a fire building sampler class. We will spend the first half of the class learning about seasonal wild plants. The second half will be spent learning and trying different fire starting techniques. 3 hours. Ages 12+
FIRE FROM THE LANDSCAPE
Finding yourself lost in the woods with no way to start a fire can mean the difference between life and death. Learning how to create fire from the landscape around you is a crucial survival skill! Equipped with just a knife, we will make a bow drill set and start a fire! 5 hours. Ages 16+
ADVANCED FIRE CHALLENGE
This class is for students who are proficient in fire making, have taken a fire class of mine in the past, or who feel they are a fire starting master! Your skills will be pushed hard by rain, wind, and time! Every student's fire building ability will be tested under pressure in a severe downpour, even if we have to create rain ;). 3 hours. Ages 16+
